What Have You done?

“What have you done?”

I asked myself as my ears bristled against the deafening silence. Just an hour ago, I had to turn both dogs to separate corners. All morning long, I put up with the antics of the high-spirited pup provoking the old maid into bearing teeth and snarling growls; He the young pup showing the force of his strength and dominant behavior and she the high queen unyielding and unwilling to give up her throne.

“The only time they’re civil to each other is when they‘re gathered at your feet while you're preparing meals.” I mused.

I sat a while longer in complete silence and wondered when it was that my precious multi-tasking daughter shut off her T.V., portable dvd player, AND computer to add to the eerie silence that now permeated the entire home.

I risked slightly opening up an eye to gaze about the room. The old queen was sleeping so soundly at the foot of the love-seat that I had to hold my breath just to be sure she still had hers. The norm for her would be pacing the halls and wandering about the rooms looking for bits of food my daughter dropped. If my dear child could scatter her attention evenly among 3 different devices at a time, what trouble would it be to scatter food about as she walked from room to room?

My thoughts returned to the silence of the space and the lack of thumping of the miniature rubber tire being tossed around the back room. If it didn’t sound like the room was being torn apart, it was a sure sign the naughty pup was into something…usually the roll of toilet paper that never seemed to find its way onto the dispenser.

I was just about ready to get up and check when I heard the loud snoring coming from the room in question. I got up, anyway, to see the pup sprawled across the queen-sized bed in an apparent coma. In the past, my footsteps would alert him to my impending approach with time enough to innocently look up at me; oblivious to the foot of two-ply clinging to his wet, bottom lip. The rest of the two-thousand squares would be hanging limply from bedpost to bedpost or shredded to pieces from one corner to the next.

A little more than an hour before, I was longing for a bar of Calgon and a deep soaking tub. The noise pollution in the tiny space was starting to drain and irritate me.

I usually waited for peace and quiet to prevail before I started any meditation and Reiki, however on this day, there didn’t seem to be any.

I settled deep into my position on the love-seat and closed my eyes with the intent that I would work through the noise and nervous energy. Breathing deeply, I visualized the symbols needed to invoke a response from the energy and one-by-one I murmured and chanted each one, focusing only on my intent. I hadn’t even noticed when the noise subsided as I felt the vibrant signs of energy entering my body spontaneously reviving and calming me. I slowly breathed in the new and slowly released the old.

Remaining in this state until I could no longer feel the subtle signs of energy envelop me, I began to notice the ticking of a nearby clock and then the chiming of yet another that was encased behind the glass of a large wooden cabinet; separated by a wall.

One…two…three…

The clock chimed an additional nine times!

Was it really an hour later? The silence mingled with the calming influence of the summoned energy.

“What have you done?” I asked myself; and, in return I heard an inner voice reply, “I’m not entirely sure, but whatever it was, be sure to do it again tomorrow!
